16thMind – The 16th Weapons Squadron was reactivated on the 24th of January 2003, so I was never part of the Tomahawks. I was in the 16th Weapons Division at the United States Air Force Weapons School as a student in the 01-B class, meaning the second class of 2001. But I wanted to give these guys a shout out because it was probably the best flying and training I have ever done…period! My brother “Ajax” B, also attended Fighter Weapons school, but he was selected to go back as an instructor. And as “Charlie” said in Top Gun, only the best of the best are selected to be instructors at Weapons School. The USAF Weapons School is a 6-month program designed to make already great instructors, into the world’s best instructors. At this school you literally learn how all of your munitions are put together, and every last beep and squeak of your airplane, all while fighting harder and more complex scenarios against more and more capable adversaries. The guys that are instructors here are phenomenal pilots, like “Ajax”, “Deets”, “Thirty”, “Nut”, “Jez”, “Spam”, and “Grip”.  They teach you how to make sense of the chaos of large force missions, but more importantly, they teach you how to teach other people. This is an important skill to have. I’ll leave you with the weapon’s officers’ creed, “Humble, credible, approachable.”

Spirit – I love this song.
I once was lost in darkest night, yet thought I knew the way.
The sin that promised joy and life had led me to the grave.
I had no hope that you would own a rebel to your will,
And if you had not loved me first, I would refuse you still.
But as I ran my hell-bound race, indifferent to the cost,
You looked upon my helpless state and led me to the cross.
And I beheld God’s love displayed, you suffered in my place.
You bore the wrath reserved for me—now all I know is grace.
Hallelujah, all I have is Christ. Hallelujah, Jesus is my life.
Now Lord, I would be yours alone and live so all might see.
The strength to follow your commands could never come from me.
Oh Father use my ransomed life in any way you choose,
And let my song forever be: my only boast is you.
